Australian sheep shipped to Middle Eastern countries are killed in prolonged and agonizing ways that are illegal in the United States, Europe, and Australia

Each year, millions of Australian sheep are shipped thousands of miles through all weather extremes on extremely crowded, multitiered ships to the Middle East and North Africa. Conditions are hot and cramped, and for many animals, the trip is lethal. In 2005 alone, more than 35,000 sheep died en route to the Middle East after becoming stressed, ill, and injured; suffering from salmonella and inanition (failure to eat)

As a result of the investigation, the Australian government called for a temporary suspension of live exports to Egypt, but the same abuses occur at all destinations in the Middle East. With Australia's temporary suspension of live exports to Egypt currently under review and live-export concerns at the forefront of public interest, the time for your own contribution is right now!

Please urge the Australian government to ban live exports to the Middle East by signing this letter to the Australian agriculture minister, Peter McGauran, urging him to permanently ban all live-animal exports.
